Job Overview
The Operations Manager contributes to the success of the Business Unit by providing strategic leadership in planning, developing, implementing, promoting, and evaluating the effectiveness of the BU’s Operational strategies, procedures, and initiatives. The Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring consistency of approach in striving for world class manufacturing practices. Key areas of impact include: 
 
•    Development of outperformance team across Operations, PD/Technical Service and Quality 
•    Delivering continuous improvement programs to reduce manufacturing cost and improve plant efficiencies 
•    Drive standardised business systems and procedures across all manufacturing footprints 
•    Management of capital investment projects and plans across PH
•    Drive overarching Safety and Quality strategies for implementing best practice initiative in the manufacturing site.
•    This position is strategic and operational in its focus and has a strong need to provide team leadership.
•    This role is largely autonomous.  An assertive pragmatic approach is required to provide direction and guidance to the team within the context of the overall business objectives and values of AFAP.

 


Principal Accountabilities
Operational Strategy and Leadership
•    Develop an aligned Operational strategy for the BATANGAS business unit 
•    Lead and support a continuous improvement agenda, driving efficiency and standardization across the group 
•    Work with site leaders to develop standardized manufacturing practices across BATANGAS  
•    Provide advice, information, and support to the BATANGAS Leadership team, line managers and employees 
•    Focus on the quality and continuous improvement of all manufacturing processes 
•    Ensure alignment with Regional and Global initiatives. 
•    Report on insights to guide and inform management  
 
People 

•    Promote and reward behavior that increases business success 
•    Manage business resources to maximize effectiveness within defined budgetary parameters 
•    Encourage and develop a sense of empowerment and engagement 
•    Ensure the right employees are engaged in the business and in the right roles 
•    Act as a coach and mentor in assisting people in making key decisions 
•    Actively manage and review the performance of direct reports including developing and reviewing KPI’s to ensure they are appropriate and accurately measure business progress 
•    Assist Management in dealing with Employee relations issue as they arise to achieve a satisfactory outcome for all involved. 
•    Implement and manager labor loading and future workforce needs 
•    Manage absenteeism rates 
•    Ensure all employees have personal development and learning plans in place 

 

Product Development/Technical Service  
•    Oversight and control of the company’s Product Development/Technical Service function 
•    Ensure that the organization’s Product Development/Technical Service conforms to customer, internal, and regulatory/legal requirements. 
•    Manage the PD team to ensure successful development of new product from raw materials development to product development. 
•    Work with the team to review customer feedback and to ensure customer requirements are met; effective resolution of customer complaints and follow through investigations

 

Quality 
•    Oversight and control of the company’s Quality function 
•    Ensure that the organization’s Quality Management System conforms to customer, internal, and regulatory/legal requirements. 
•    High level involvement with customers as required. 
•    Structure, manage and motivate the quality teams, both direct and indirect.
•    Manage the Customer Feedback function with respect to non-conformances and initiating processes for initial corrective actions and subsequent review. 
•    Manage the monitoring, measurement, and review of relevant internal processes. 
•    Evaluate and report regularly on the performance of the QMS and develop and implement strategies for improvement. 
•    Drive a customer centric  
•    Oversee product recalls.  

 

Safety and Environment  
•    Provide direction, structure, planning, technical support, and safety leadership to drive positive behavior and culture across the Business Unit 
•    Ensure that the expectations are understood by all site management teams and that the HS&E plans include these expectations.  
•    Personally, conduct all major investigations and play a hands-on role in minor incident investigations to coach others. 
•    Consult, engage and coach key stakeholders both internally and externally

 


Qualifications/Requirements
Knowledge and Experience
•    Tertiary qualifications in a Manufacturing, Business or Engineering discipline.
•    Desirable - Post Graduate Business Management qualifications.

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the Flexible Packaging Manufacturing Industry

•    Knowledge of Operational Management & Manufacturing Principles Quality and Continuous Improvement methodologies - Must have a broad understanding of key areas of Operational practice including but not limited to Lean and Six Sigma, GMP, HACCP, Quality and quality related systems, labour management and resourcing, operational efficiencies and optimisation, cost, and cost management 
•    Knowledge of Product Development and Technical Service.
•    Knowledge of Supply Chain Principles - Must have broad understanding of production planning, material procurement, inventory control, vendor selection and distribution.
•    Knowledge of Safety and Safe Working Practices - Must have a broad understanding of key areas of Safety and Environmental practice and best practice process, governance, and behavioural models. 
•    Knowledge of current Leadership principles and practices - Required to understand and be able to utilise key Leadership competencies across all levels of the organisation. Acts as coach and mentor for the operations team.
•    Demonstrate ability to analytically review system or product issues.  
•    Able to communicate process, system, or product improvements clearly and concisely in assigned organization.
•    Excellent inter-personal and communication skills with demonstrated success collaborating and teaming with cross-functional teams, influencing internal and external stakeholders effecting change positively .
•    Ability to build strong relationships and gain consensus and alignment within indirect cross-functional teams. 
•    Clear, systematic, and concise report writing skills. 
•    Able to make decisions and influence broad consensus building. 
•    Results oriented.
