Job Purpose

The Plant General Manager is a key leader within Amcor Flexibles EMEA, driving operational excellence, safety, and business growth. This role ensures a safe and high-performing work environment, aligned with Amcor’s standards, vision, and values.

Leading a cross-functional team, the Plant General Manager is responsible for delivering high-quality, high-service packaging solutions that enhance customer experience. Success in this role is measured by employee engagement, customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, and financial performance, all contributing to the accelerated growth of Amcor Flexibles EMEA.

Principal Accountabilities

Leadership & Culture

  • Leads by example, embodying Amcor values and competencies to inspire and engage the team, setting clear performance expectations and fostering an engaging culture and positive work environment.
  • Provides opportunities for individual growth by empowering people and identifying developmental stretch assignments to contribute to the organizational talent pipeline.

Safety & Compliance

  • Leads a Zero-Accident mentality and focuses on all aspects of OHSE by driving safety improvement and prevention initiatives according to the Business Group (BG) policies (e.g. annual behavioural audits).
  • Collaborates with functional leads and local teams to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.

Customer Focus & Operational Excellence

  • Prioritizes customer satisfaction by focusing on quality and service while achieving operational and financial objectives to accelerate Amcor Flexible EMEA’s growth.
  • Drives key KPIs around safety, service, quality, cost, and investments (e.g., volume growth, DIFOTIS, Net Promoter Score, waste, setup times, OEE, quality targets).

Strategic & Financial Performance

  • Develops and implements strategies to optimize plant operations, ensuring cost efficiency and profitability while maintaining high standards of product quality and safety.
  • Regularly reviews financial performance, identifies areas for improvement, and takes corrective actions to achieve P&L targets.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Leads efforts to identify and implement innovative solutions that enhance operational efficiency and competitiveness, ensuring the plant's long-term success.
  • Drives and supports change initiatives that align with the organization's strategic goals, fostering a Continuous Improvement (CI) mindset across all employees.

Talent & Workforce Planning

  • Works with HR to ensure the plant is equipped with the skills needed for future growth, prioritizing succession planning and strategic workforce needs.
  • Fosters comprehensive talent development programs that enhance employee skills, support career progression, and align with the organization's long-term objectives.

Collaboration & Best Practices

  • Drives operational transformation by collaborating with the operations leadership team, supporting Business Group functional leads, and sharing best practices with other Plant General Managers.

Business Planning & Governance

  • Knows the business and delivers on key operational metrics by formulating and agreeing on the plant business plan (annual budget), aligning with Business Unit, Business Group, and functional strategic plans.
  • Implements and ensures compliance with Amcor policies and guidelines, keeping co-workers and stakeholders informed.

Employee Relations & Legal Compliance

  • Maintains a constructive relationship with works councils and unions, ensuring regular communication and agreements.
  • When required, acts as the legal representative of the entity, liaising with regulatory bodies and ensuring compliance with legal obligations, supported by Compliance and Legal teams.

 

 

Qualifications/Requirements

Formal Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Operational Management, or equivalent; MBA is a plus.
  • Industry Experience: 10+ years in a manufacturing organization, with a strong understanding of plant-level operations and expertise in at least one functional area.
  • Leadership Experience: Minimum 5 years in a management role, leading operations teams, ideally within manufacturing.
  • Sector Knowledge: Proven track record in FMCG, Manufacturing, or a relevant sector.
  • Employee Relations: Experience working in a unionized environment.
  • Team Development: Skilled in building, leading, and developing high-performing teams, including talent acquisition, succession planning, and fostering an inclusive workplace.
  • Languages: Excellent communication skills in English and the local language, as applicable.
