Technical Support Manager

Reporting to: National Specification Manager
Location: External Sales

Purpose of the Role

We are seeking a proactive and results‑driven Technical Support Manager with strong experience in specification sales to join our growing team. The successful candidate will identify and develop new business opportunities, build long-term relationships with key stakeholders, and drive revenue through effective specification generation and conversion. This position requires a strategic thinker with excellent communication skills, a solid understanding of the construction sector, and the ability to manage a robust technical and commercial pipeline.


Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Generate specifications with Architects, Engineers, and Contractors, providing risk‑assessed technical designs in line with relevant Codes of Practice and industry regulations—both onsite and at client offices.
  • Log all specifications accurately within the CRM system.
  • Track specifications from initial generation through to confirmed sales orders.
  • Deliver CPD presentations using PowerPoint to promote best practice and product understanding.
  • Provide on‑site technical support and troubleshooting.
  • Support the Visqueen National Training Academy as required.
  • Proactively target new opportunities to drive specification generation and market penetration.
  • Manage territory activity, diary planning, and tasks using Outlook and the CRM platform.
  • Commit to ongoing professional and personal development.
  • Contribute to the delivery and implementation of New Product Development (NPD) programmes.
  • Work collaboratively with the commercial team to support opportunities throughout the supply chain.

  • Monthly reporting of Specifications versus Budget.
  • Monthly reporting of Specification KPIs.
  • Monthly reporting of new business generated through targeted activity.
  • Sales achieved versus budget.
  • Specification generation and retention performance within assigned territory.
  • Delivery of CPD sessions aligned with business and regional expectations.

  • Experience Required
  • Proven experience in construction or specification sales, with strong account‑management capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong professional networks.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Solid understanding of construction methods, procedures, and industry terminology.

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload and manage a busy diary effectively.

  • High-level IT literacy, including CRM systems, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong technical understanding of construction processes and drawings.
  • Detailed knowledge of the specification process.
  • Willingness to work towards achieving the CSSW qualification within an agreed timeframe.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail in both written and numerical tasks.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, technical sales environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship‑building skills.

Qualifications

  • Educated to A‑Level standard (or equivalent).
  • CSSW qualification is desirable but not essential.
