Job Purpose

The Operational Excellence function will drive significant and sustainable competitive advantage across the value chain to generate top and bottom line growth. In addition to delivering gold standard performance, demonstrated through key performance indicators, the global Operational Excellence team will build and champion best-in-class organisational capabilities. This industry leading performance will be underpinned by developing the Amcor Flexibles Production System (AFPS), systematic collaboration across the Operational Excellence network and a ‘’One Amcor’’ approach across the global Flexibles business.
The OPEX Manager plays a critical role in the Plant performance, supporting the delivery of this step change in Operational Excellence; he / she will challenge accepted thinking and create a culture and a way of working focused on best practice sharing. The position reports to the Plant General Manager and works across the Plant, at a management level.
Alzira is an strategic site in the region receiving a level a high level of investment. The site has been chosen as pilot site globally to implement “Operation+ program” (IWS) and structured Manufacturing Excellence program based in 100% People involvement and Zero Loss Mentality through daily Production management systems.
The role exists to formulate and deliver an annual business cost-out plan for the business group in line with longer term strategic objectives, and to meet agreed KPIs, by analyzing operational performance at the plants and by creating a best-practice and transformational mindset.
Job Dimensions & Scope
The nature of the role involves applying management skills in Operational Excellence and leadership abilities, to ensure delivery of the key Operational Excellence KPIs at a business group level. It includes close collaboration with the Plant operations management team, middle managers, central functions and productions teams.
The dimensions & scope of the role include the following tasks:
- Progressive “Operation +” Implementation journey across the whole site, being accountable of:
- Capability creation, Team coaches and direct leaders and Process Engineers.
- Systems implementation.
- PDCA Cycle implementation on weekly, monthly and quarterly basis. Results Tracking and action planning.
- New roles description and people development agenda.
- Systems Audits and health checks.
- Total cost Out Projects, minor Capex Project Management.
- Process Improvements and Capex implementation.
- Dirve of yearly Loss Analysis in broad scope: materials, productivity, supply chain and administration process, assets utilization..
- Cost top-down targets.
- Drive Continuous Improvement Projects masterplan with rigor and cadence.
- Support deployment of manufacturing and supply Chain projects
- Preparation/participation in bi-weekly steerco.

Principal Accountabilities
The OPEX Manager is accountable for leading the implementation the Operation+ program across the site and managing and supporting a set of cross functional projects aimed at reducing costs and improving best practice-sharing within EMEA to generate a transformational mindset built around the Amcor Flexibles Production System (AFPS).
The principal accountabilities of the role are:
- Operation+ systems implementation, based in Autonomous Maintenance, Focused Improvement, TPM and People development.
- Train, coach and develop different levels of the organization in “Operation+”, to engage co-workers towards a culture of continuous improvement.
- Drive a robust set of management tools and controls (Governance & Rigour) that is action orientated and is closely monitored with deviations swiftly rectified and roadblocks removed by escalation to PGM.
- Collaborate pro-actively with teams across the plant to leverage best practice and drive a ‘’One Amcor’’ approach.
- Rigorously track and report cost-out activities toward Amcor internal stakeholders to help them in setting the business priorities and driving business performance.
- Develop, document and codify the Amcor Flexibles Production System (AFPS) including KPIs, standards and process best practices.
- Manage and develop consistent business-wide tools to share best-practices across the global Flexibles business and measure and evaluate the efficiency of our operations
Qualifications/Requirements
Formal Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering or similar; advanced degree in Project Management advantageous.
- Experience (min 5 years) in leading continuous process production areas (min +75 FTEs) in FMCG or Packaging companies.
- IWS background and experience is desirable.
- Experience (min 5 years) in working with Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing tools and processes.
- Process development would be a value.
- Experience on supporting significant change / transformation projects within a manufacturing environment.
- Soft skills: agility to learn, influencing others, proactive mindset, action-minded, teamwork and autonomous responsibility.
- MS office advanced knowledge including Excel expertise is requested. Digital capabilities for data management. Good IT understanding and ability to learn quickly.
- Comfortable with numbers and finance principles
- Spanish mother tongue. Fluent in written and spoken English; other languages (German, French) would be an advantage.
