Production Manager

JOB PURPOSE
As Production Manager, you will take the lead in shaping the performance and future of our Alcácer do Sal manufacturing site.
The plant produces packaging for the healthcare industry. It is a very profitable production site with a €25M-turnover.
This role offers the opportunity to make a real impact: strengthening safety culture, elevating operational standards, modernising processes, and developing a motivated and high-performing team.
You will be a key voice within the Senior Management Team, driving site strategy and championing a culture of excellence, reliability, and continuous improvement. You will report directly to the Plant General Manager and you will manage 9 people directly (34 people indirectly).
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Leadership & Senior Management Contribution

Influence and contribute to the site’s strategic direction, ensuring alignment across operations, engineering, supply chain, quality, and HR.

Provide clear, timely communication to drive clarity, focus, and operational alignment.

Inspire a culture of ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement across all teams.
Team Management & Development

Lead and develop a diverse team of 34 people, fostering engagement, accountability, and strong team spirit.

Set clear expectations, conduct meaningful performance reviews, and build robust succession and training plans.

Create an environment where employees feel empowered, valued, and motivated to deliver their best work.
Production & Operational Performance

Drive production performance with an unwavering focus on safety, quality, efficiency, waste reduction, and customer satisfaction.

Lead Lean and continuous improvement initiatives that boost productivity and strengthen plant reliability.

Oversee planning, capacity, and capital projects to ensure flawless execution and sustainable performance gains.
Engineering & Reliability

Lead the engineering team to deliver high equipment reliability, reduced downtime, and technical excellence.

Strengthen cross-functional collaboration to ensure production and engineering work as one team with shared priorities.

Support major engineering and improvement projects, ensuring strong technical delivery and long-term operational impact.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
Formal Qualifications and Experience
-
Degree in Engineering, Technology, or Science.

10+ years of Production/Operations Management experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

3+ years of experience in managing teams.

Confident working with Excel and ERP systems.

Strong background in Lean, Six Sigma, continuous improvement, and leading change.

Fluent in Portuguese and professional level in English.
