 Position Job Title: Product Development Engineer (Raw Materials)

Job Purpose

 

Planning & executing projects maintaining and improving the competitiveness of the extruded films fortfolio. Participation in the structural redesign of the extruded films portfolio utilizing design principles, SMS & Newton. Management and execution of assigned Product Development projects within BU’s market.

The PDE will lead and/or participate in internal, customer related and segment driven platform projects, new product and product line extension projects, and particularly complex raw material changes, from the idea to the implementation phase. He/she will have an active participation in the development of products / concepts / technologies. This can be in the local base site, but also in other sites of the manufacturing network – particularly in plants with sealant extrusion capability.

The PDE will interact with procurement, CI, operations, quality, segment product development and raw material suppliers within their market area of specialization. Additionally, PDEs will strongly interact and support the Plant Technical teams in the scope of new products development projects.

 

Job Dimensions & Scope

 

  • Responsible for managing the day to day activities related to the new product development projects (NPDs), particularly L1 and L3 Value Engineering
  • Responsible for the documentation and communication of the progress to the R&D Manager and other selected persons
  • Responsible for managing projects also in other Amcor Flexibles site, outside their local base sites
  • Interact with Amcor extrusion plants

 

Principal Accountabilities

 

Executing and closing new product development projects targeted for cost-out both procurement related as well as complex value engineering.

  • Rationalization of the production portfolio together with expert colleagues.
  • Set up the plan with milestones and deliverables for the assigned projects
  • Managing the assigned NPD projects in a site, with the support of a selected team
  • Product qualification internally and at customers
  • Monthly reporting on the status, the progress and the following month planned activities
  • Maintaining the project database

Field Technical Service

  • Support our Field Technical Service team at assigned customers, upon the need.

Sales/Marketing Support

  • Technical assistance for sales/marketing in selling concepts, cost reduction initiatives and AF products
  • Preparation of technical presentations related to the above

Qualifications/Requirements

 

Formal Qualifications And Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of related experience in flexible packaging industry
  • Fluency in database & systems – SMS, Newton, FWA – seen as a great advantage
  • Excellent knowledge of materials science, polymer engineering and converting technologies related to flexible packaging
  • BSc degree (or equivalent) required in a technical discipline
  • Must be fluent in English. The knowledge of other main European languages in addition is preferred.

 

Specific Skills And Abilities

  • Project Management experience and proven project leadership roles
  • Proactive and able to communicate with senior management, sites and able to give seminars and presentations to customers
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to build internal and external relationship
  • Solid understanding of overall company strategy and business acumen
